An Irrigation cntorprlso that has much promlso Is that of tho Suttlcs Lako Improvement Company, a cor poration with hcadquartors at Ilond, and which plans to uso tho stored waters of Illuo and Suttlcs lakes for tho Irrigation of 12,500 acres of fer- tllo land. This area lies some 22 miles northwest of llend, In the vicin ity of Cllno Uuttcs. In addition to tho land for whose irrigation water rights havo been obtained, thcro Is about thrco times as much moro land whoso Irrigation may bo attempted lator. However, whether or not wa tor Is ever put upon this territory, as a dry farm proposition its (uturo Is assured. The first Investigations of this project wore mado some 20 years ago by settlers on tho Metollus river. In 1906 and 1907 L. D. Wlcst of llend and others took up activo engineer ing Investigation, out of which has grown tho undertaking of today. In 1909, together with J. W. Howard of Lower Drldgo, Mr..
