taken In the proposal to hare the
timber of the county duly and syste
matically cruised.
Assessor tafollette. under whose
department the cruising of the
county's Umber properly belongs, is
very much opposed to the movement
at the present time. While realis
ing the Importance of an expert esti
mation of the taxable timber, Mr.
Lafollctte claims that now Is quite
tho wrong lime to burden the tax
payers with an extra $00,000, the
amount be estimates would lie neces
sary to hare the Job done by experts.
Mr. afolleUe estimates the county's
timber land at from 500,000 to
800,000 acres.
John Vauderpool, until recent an

been adjudged Insane. Dr. Edwards
took hint to the court house and he
has been given temporary accommo
dation by the county while waiting
for an attendant from the asylum to

Mrs. Rhoda Tyler gave an onjoy
able dancing party Tuesday evening
in her hotel dining room, which has
been enlarged. Mrs. Tyler and her

Mr. Culver recently had a Jersey
cow shot, presumably accidentally
by someone hunting through 'tho
Junipers. The cow was a valuablo
animal, and, as. usual, someone Is

Miss Hattto Frost entertained a
numbor of her friends at her home
Sunday evening. The evonlng waa
pleasantly spent playing games.

OIST, March 34 Considerable
excitement waa caused horo the first
of the week by tho strange disap
pearance of V. W. I-orercnx, who
lives atono on hla ranch a fow miles
south. Several efforts were made
to reach him by phono, which were
unfruitful, and during Sunday sor
oral neighbors called at hts ranch
but were unable to find any trace of
htm. His failure to keep an Im
portant engagement on that day
added to tho belief that ha had met
with foul play. An Investigation
waa made by Henry Schumacher,
brother- In-law of Mr. Loveronx. and
It was found that the latter had
been quietly grubbing sagobrush on
a distant part of hla ranch, thinking
the day was Saturday Instead ot
Sunday.
School opened last Monday after
a short vacation, and the work waa
taken up with renewed Interest by
both pupils and teacher. A visit by
L. J. Murdock, school supervisor, on
Thursday proved very helpful, and
while hero Mr, Murdock said. "1
am welt pleated with tho school In
cvory respect. The deportment of
tho pupils Is exceptionally good, and
the district Is (ortunato to hnvo se
cured tho services of so competent
and painstaking a tcachor as Mrs.
Nichols."

well pleased with tho country and

Alfred Howard and son are down

no wator so far. Fred Krlger Is
going down slowly In his well on
account of the lava rock not blast

Willis Noland purchased through
