week by the two cars of the Control
Oregon Trucking Co. to Hums nnd
return. Fast time was made both
ways nnd there wns not n mishap
rojiorted for the entire run of more
than aOO miles.
Tlio cars got back to Bend Friday.
The trip to Burns was made in 19
hours of nctual running time. The
cars left here Monday afternoon at
1:30 o'clock and that night wns
spent at Millican's. Riley wns
reached Tuesday evening nnd the
night spent there. Hums wns
reached at II a. m. Wednesday,
putting the Thanksgiving goods
taken on the trucks there in time
for delivery to buyers before the
holiday.
The enthusiasm with which the
Bums people received the new
means of transportation was shown ,
by the demonstration which they
gave. Some 12 or 15 autos loaded
with business men came out and
met the trucks, escorting them into
town. Manager McDadc had pre
ceded the freight carriers and in
formed the merchants when they
would arrive. Thnt evening the
Commercial Club celebrated the
event with a banquet, at which the
business interests of the town
pledged their support to the new
enterprise.
Most of the freight taken over
from here was for Bill Hanley and
it was delivered at his ranch a few
miles from Burns. A return load
of 130 hides was obtained there and
these, with other freight which was
waiting at Bums, gave the trucks a 1
capacity load for the return to
Bend.
Coming back, only 14 hours was
necessary to make the trip. This
reduction of five hours was due
mainly to the fact that the cars had
a track to follow, made by them
going over. On the round trip each
of the big cars consumed only 90
gallons of gasoline, and more than
hilf of thii waj used on the initial
run over.
The drivers reported the road all
the way in good condition for auto
trucking. The worse stretch found
was that through Lake county and
for a fe.v miles this side of Bums.
C. C. Harrison of the company
stated that the entire round trip
was made with absolutely no adjust
ments to either car.

A large audience greeted the
local singers Friday evening nnd
appeared much pleased with the
entertainment. All the numbers
were loudly applauded nnd though J
the program stated there would be
no encores several were demanded.
Although some of the selections i
wore dilllcult, they were well rend
ered. Mrs. Lindborg's solos. Miss
West's violin ploying nnd the read
ing of Mrs. Mero were especially
good.
