This is but the beginning of what

Loomis have associated themselves
togsthcr under the firm name of
Tho Garvin-Loomis Construction Co.
and opened an office in the Central
Building, now occupied by the Cen
tral Oregon Irrigation Co.
Mr. Garvin came to Bend last
week from Dicringer, Wash., where
he had been engaged with the Stone
& Webster Engineering Corporation
in the construction of the largest
power station on the Pacific Coast,
being built for the Pacific Coast
Power Co. He came to the Coast
from Louisville,. Ky., where he was
for three years construction in.
spector on the city's $4,000,000
sewer system.
Mr. Loomis was also engaged in
the construction of the Dicringer
plant and was with Stone & Webster
on building work about Seattle for
several years previous. He was
superintendent of street construc
tion work in Honolulu for two years
before entering the employ of Stone
& Webster.
The new company will design and
erect buildings, as well as go into
the general contracting line.
Facilities for handling Height are
bolng improved every tiny and the
merchants nro able to get their
goods unloaded from the enrs with
less delay and trouble. A crowing

in and trucks can now get to cars
from the west side of the track.
The platform brought up from Opal
City, erected on the east side, is
crowded with goods billed to
merchants of interior t o w n b.
Mnnnger Hentley of the United
Warehouse Co. nijd assistants nre
handling this freight with dispatch.
Freighters have already loaded out
goods for Lake county towns, Im
Pine, Laidlnw and other points. W.
W. Brown nnd Bill Hnnley of liar

shipments.
The spur track to the Hour mill
has been completed and in order to
relievo some of the congestion on
the yards some of the cars will bo
shunted to the mill nnd unloaded
there. The first car was run down
there yesterday.
Dirt from tho cut made in grad

fill in the tracks around the pas
senger station, making smoother
walking around there.
The stormy weather has inter
fered seriously with the work on the
freight warehouse, but Contractor

Unusually Early Cold Snap Struck
Bend Last Week
The past week has been a stormy
one here, as well as all over the
Pacific Coast. The bad weather set
in last Wednesday night with a
light Bnowfall, and Thursday night
the thermometer dropped down
nearly to zero. The Government
instrument here being broken, no
official record was made but a num
ber of people reported their ther
mometers registering from G to 1
above zero.
Such cold weather so early in the
winter is vory unusual for Bond.
Last year the first snowfall was also
on Nov. 8 but was only very light
and was followed by rain. Inter
mitten snow and rain has fallen
here the past week but at no time
was there more than a quarter of
an inch of snow on the ground.
Yesterday a mist fell when there
w&i no cloud visible any where over
head. The rain . was blown across
the mountains by the wind, which
has been high for the last ten days.
