Board Takes Action to Provide Accom-

ExpectedHigh School to Close
At 4 P. M. Instead of 4:30
Additional room required by the
Bend school this winter will be ob
tained by fitting up a room in the
attic nf the school building. This
was decided at a meeting of the
School Board Saturday evening, at
tended by the full board. The con
' tract was let to J. W. Dimick for
$194.50 and the work will be com
pleted by Sept. 10. The room will
be about 20x20 feet in dimensions,
with an eight-foot ceiling. There
will also be a hall in the attic. The
High School students will probably
use this new room, giving the grade
pupils more room down stairs.
Three dozen desks and one dozen
rear seats to desks have been order
ed b"y the board.
Prof. Shouse was present at the
meeting and recommended that the
closing hour of the High School be
changed from 3:40 to 4 p. m., and
that tho afternoon recess period be
changed from 2:45 to 2:30. His
suggestions were adopted.
The board accepted the contract
of Miss Martha Sidner, primary
room teacher, at $70 a month for
September and October and $75 a
month for the rest of the year.
Chairman Triplett was instructed
by the board to secure a janitor for
the school building at from $40 to
$50 a month.
