DESCHUTES LAND CO.
ASKS DAMAGES
Complaint Charges Weal, V. Vincent
Jones and a Third Party With Con
piracy tn llankrtipt Irrigation
Company Operating at LaPlne
The Deschutes Land Co. of La
Pine, through its president. J. K.
Morson, has tiled in the State Cir
cuit Court at rortlaml a suit asking
for 10,000 damages from Governor
West and V. Vincent Jonos. The
complaint alleges conspiracy on the
part of the Governor, Jonos and n
third iierson to bankrupt the cor
poration because it refused to put
up a bond of 100,000, which Mor
son says the law does not require.
The complaint alleges that Jones
accused the company beforo a recent
meeting of the Portland Ileal ly
Hoard with being a "fraud and a
cheat."
"This suit is only the beginning,
as I contemplate beginning criminal
action ns soon as I can get the name
of a third person who is trying to
destroy the De.sehutos IjiikI Com
pany," Morson is quoted by thu
Oregonian as Haying.
President Morson declares that
he would have had no trouble hud
he not made the remark to Gov
ernor West one day that his com
pany hits n large surplus on hand,
amply sufficient to complete its
irrigation project in Crook and
Klamath counties.
"Governor West immediately sug
gested," said Mr. Morson. "that
the Deschutes Land Company put
up a $100,000 cash bond in addition
to tho $30,000 bond it has already
put up to guarantee the fulfillment
of its contract. This the company
has refused tn do, because it is not
required by the law. y
"Although we are required to
have only 6000 acres under water
next spring, we will have 10,000
acres ready for irrigation, although
I don't suppose all of it will be
planted."
