" WEATHER FOR JULY Maximum Temperature Was 09, Re corded on Sunday, the 16th. While many of the cities of the Pacific Northwest had some almost unbearably hot weather last month, Bend was more fortunate. The maximum temperature recorded by the United States co-operative ob server here was 99 degrees on July 10. Every day in the month was dear. On the 13th at 8 a. m. there was a slight thunder shower, the precipitation being recorded only as a trace. The following is the re port of the month: Dale y. : t it., ti. u 14 IS 4. Mat Mia tl( t.. The possibilities of the Bend country for clover growing are well demonstrate! this year by the suc cess of W. H. Stoats. Mr. Stoats, from 15 acres of clover immediately adjacent to Bend on the southeast, has cut 40 tons. "I expect to get 14 tons to the acre on the second cutting, too," said Mr. Stoats. The clover was planted two years ago. Next Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Stoats start for Newport in their auto, Prince Stoats driving. Guy McReynolJ will accompany then They will nmke the 225-mile trip over the Sintiam route across the mountain, a-! expect to be absent about a month. RUNS FULL BLAST development, desecrating not only A. M. Lara's nttractivo lawn but the Sabbath as well. The maverick bovine was disci vjred Sunday even ing cropping the Lara lawn, after apparently hnving been dissatisfied with what she found in the way of supper on the adjoining Putnam plow. According to Mrs. Muddoek, who discovered the trespasser, an effort to find a police otlicer to arrest the offender was unavailing. So far as is known, no criminal action was taken against bossy, who escaped unknown and unimpounded. The damage to the two lawns was slight. PAST TRANS-CASCAMJ RUN A record auto run was made by Horace N. Steele Thursday across the Cascades by the Santiam route with seven passengers. From here to Albany, n distance of VX miles over rough and precipitous roads, he made the trip in 15 hours. In the car were L. B. Baird, wife and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. Y Masters of Bartlesville, Okla., and Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Baird of New-berg. tho body of B. B. Bakowskl, tho photographer, was futile. Mr. Stephenson believes that tho lost man started to climb n steep crag known as Kaglo Peak and folPovcr tho rim of the crater Into thu lake. OOINU ON Tltl! ROAD. Having mot with success at homo, the local talent which presented tho play "Among tho Breakers" have arranged a two-day trip to Prine villo nnd Hedmond.
