Visits Bend With Railroad .Men.
Last week Bend was visited by
an eastern journalist, Hoke Smith,
of St. Paul, In company with W. A. ,
Foster, a Seattle lumber man, F.W. i
Graham, Western Industrial and
Immigration Agent of the Great
Northern, and J. I. Springer, Trav.
Frt. Agt. Arriving Friday noon, in
the afternoon the visitors, accom-1
panled by A. 0. Hunter, Clyde Mc ,
Ray, C. S. Hudson, U. C. Coe nnd '
G. P. Putnam, made a trip to Ben- J
ham Falls In three autos. j
Mr. Smith, is in the Northwest
in the interest of several eastorn
newspapers, to whom he is sending
correspondence, and for special pub
licity work for L. V. Hill, President
of the G. N. In addition to a large
amount of data concerning the Bend
country, Mr. Smith took away with
INSTITUTE AT REDMOND.
The teachers of the Bend school
will go down to Redmond this week
to attend an institute meeting simi-'
lar to that recently held here by I
County Superintendent R. A. Ford.
The sessions will open Saturday .
morning at 9 o'clock. Among those I
on the program is Prof. J. C. r.
Harrington, who will sjx.ak on
"Schools of South America."
PICTURE MACHINE ARRIVES.
R. W. Fulkerson, leasee of Lins
tcr's Hall, has just received a new
moving picture machine which he
expects to have in operation this
week. Films will be changed three
times a week, giving local amuse
ment lovers plenty of entertain
ment. The excellent dance program
which Mr. Fulkerson has been giving
wili be put on occasionally during the
summer to give variety.
WANT MAIL FROM MERE.
Petitions are being circulated
here and in Burns asking the post
office department to establish a
daily mail service f rom here to the
Harney county seat as soon as Ore
gon Trunk trains get in. Knough
signers are expected to be secured;
to get the route established.

was to have been held yesterday was
postponed. Next Tuesday there
will bean official meeting: all are
