In the Lakeview land ditricl, by counties: Crook, 374.373; Harney, 3,641, o4! Klamath, 303,036; Lake', 3.4S6.S39; Malheur, 3,484,743; total, 8.390,033 acres. In The Dalles district: Crook, 1,331, 730; Gilliam. 106.866; Grant, 59.619; Morrow, 83 869; Sherman, 33.293; Wasco. 282,796; Wheeler, 505,76; total, 2,48 !, 930 acres. In Crook County, then, there remain 1.137,663 acres of unappropriated public lands. Of course much of this, probably almost two-thirds, is not suitable to cultivation. Under the Carey Act, which provides for the Irrigation of tracts Riven the state by the Government, by private con cerns operating under contract with the slate.
