Joe Buckholtz left for Worcester, Ohio, on Monday, to be gone prob ably until March. Hn route he in tends to visit the apple show at Spokane, and tell folks a thing or two about Central Oregon. Mr. Buckholtz will visit part of his family in Ohio. He has a father 90 years old, and 10 brothers arid sisters, all living, the youngest of whom is 30 yeats old. Mr. Buckholtz hs made some fine records on his truck farm near Bend this year. On one acre he raised 12,000 pounds of onions, sel ling them at au average price of i'i cents. He says he netted at the very lowest Sjoo from the acre. Au eighth of an acre of celery brought in $200 gross. On this ground radishes planted in April, May and Juuc were sold for $125. thus not interfering with the celery STAfllP MAIL HERE. Cancelling Monday Might's Mall at Powell Butte to Cease. Inspector Duraud of the Post office Department, accompanied by K. E Whitney, Chief of Star Routes, was in Bend lust Friday. Hereafter railroad mail, in order to get out Tuesday morning, must be in the postofficc Monday night before Postmaster Minor leaves, as there is a rule which prohibits .stage drivers carrying mail on from within one-fourth of a mile of a postoffice. It has been the custom for the' stage drivers to carry the late Monday night mail from the Pilot Butte Inn to Powell Butte sta tion, where it was cancelled, thus increasing the receipts of cancella tion of that office iustead of going through the third class office here. Complete county election returns, a table of which appears elsewhere in this paper, shows Balfour a win tier over Hlkins for Sheriff by 9 votes. In 1906 Hlkins won from Conglcton by 639 votes. West got 899 votes, Bowcrman 764. kit fertv drew 922', manning 567, The prohibition returns show a reversal of the 1908 vote. The county went wet by 271 votes 987 against prohibition, 716 for it. In 1908 the count) went dry by 584 votes. Deschutes County had 271 votes for aud 1382 against. Madras and Bend each gave the measure 6 votes, while Redmond had the same number against it. Stark won for circuit judge over Krad show by 7 votes. The bill for county creation won out, 763 to 636. in the county. In the state the wets won overwhelmingly, and Home Rule by a close majority. All county division schemes were defeated. The bill for creation of new counties was defeated by a narrow maigin. HE NOTICES CHANGES. A. O. Hunter Predicts Even Larger Rush than lost Spring. A. O. Hunter returned to Bend last Friday after an extended trip through the Middle West and Can ada. "When you consider," Mr. Hun ter said, "bow far we are from a railroad, the number of new build ings that have been erected is a fine tribute to the confidence out siders as well as Bend people have iu our town. I am convinced that early next spring we will have an even larger rush of people than we had last year." Railroad Worker Hurt. On Sunday afternoon Nick Ber lich. an Austrian railroad laborer in McLaughlin & Tudor's camp 1, had a finger on his left band badly broken and sustained painful inju ries about the head in a Cghl with a fellow laborer. The County Clerk of Crook County has paid out $523 in bounty money for 32 2 coyote scalps, 30 bob cat and two cougar front feet, dur ing the last two month.
