who shot himself while mentally
unbalanced, was held last Wednes
day afternoon from the Bend

Albert Harryman, who recently
moved his family from their Swal
ly ditch ranch to town for winter
schooling, has set up a drag saw in
the northwestern part of the Wies
toria tract to saw into shingle-block
and stove-wood lengths the trees
taken out in tbe process of clearing
streets.
The "Hall Room Boys," Brack-
ctt and Sengfelder, last Monday
evening gnve a dinner at their tent
for a score of their friends. They
did the cooking and serving them
selves and both were unexception
able. Chinese lanterns lighted the
long table. The occasion was an
ngreeable deviation from the con
ventional "feed."
Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Lara arrived
Friday afternoon after an excursion
to Portland by horseback. They
were a week on the road over the
Santiam route from Bend to the
metropolis, including one day spent
at Salem, and a like period tidinc
in from The Dalles via Shaniko,
where they spent a day waiting for
rain to stop. They enjoyed the
trip exceedingly; nnd this intimate!

more than ever convinced them of
the superlative virtues of Central
Oregon.
LUNO FEVER REMEDY

and Mrs. P. A. Woolley returned
from the Willamette Valley yester
day with a load of fruit for their
own use.
Mr. Woolley had the misfortune
to lose a good horse lately with
lung fever. He had another fine
horse with the same complaint but
by giving him oil of tar and bela
dona, equal partsa, tablespoouful
night and morning, he has saved
his horse. All who have horses
should make a note of this valu
able remedy aud keep it on hand.
Get two ounces of beladona and two
ounces of oil of tar, have th ! drug
gist mix them and give one table
spoonful evening and morning.
Keep the horsi blanketed, wrap
the legs to keep them warm and by
so doing many a valuable horse can
be saved. Keep the horse iu a
warm baru.
We are looking for cigars galore
now, since the candidates have
been chosen, and no doubt many
promises will be made and broken.

are baling J. N. B. Gerklng's large
hay crop. Mr. Gerkiug has con
tracted all his hay to the railroad
company at good prices and I now
delivering it at a polut near Long!
Butte on the line of the railroad.
O. W. Wlmcr & Sons have their
large liny nnd grain crop all in the
stack today. They are expecting
Mr. Foster's threshing machine
soon to thresh a big lot of grain.
