PRESSED BRICK CLAY.
Tent Shows Itend ha Material for Su
perior Product.
About Augum r A. If. Horn, of
the Hcnd IJrick & Tile Co , sent a
ainnple X)und of the clay ucd by
the brick works on the old Ilarncy
Lewis lionirnleml to the American
Cloy Machinery Co. at Hucyrtis,
Ohio, for tentim;. He has hint re.
ceived u report of the experiment,
'ogctuer witn a small brick made
from the inhtcnul submitted.
The brick hpeaks for itself, being
very hard, and of close texture a
presneil brick that will stand the se
verest service. It Is brluht red in
color. In the letter the Oucvrus
expert", say: I
We do not think vnu thould heallate

proportion, iirorided vou have itkmI I
market for the prcxluct
The clay works well in a dry
presi, according to this report. In
order to be mill surer, however, 300
pounds of the material will be ship
ped to liucyrus for more extensive
testing preparatory to ordering a
complete plant for Uend. There Is
a great quantity of the clay and the
market for mii'Ii superior brick will
be wide when the railroad gets
here.

J V Wafers of Eugene is in
llcnd this week, on a prospecting
lour of Central Oregon He came
out (rom Nebraska less tl an two
years, ago and is pretty well pleased
with Oregon. He says that when
he settled In Northwestern Nebras
ka he was told that it was no
county for fruit or tame grasses
too cold und dry for them. Yet
he stayed to see it a large producer
of both. . He has no doubt that ex
perience in Central Oregon will be
somewhat similar.
