Irrigation Project I'roj-reMcs.
J. E. Sawhill came to Ocnd Mon
day from his ranch on Uig River.
He says all crops in that viciuity
are exceptionally promising. C.
B. Allen's ranch has fields of oats
and barley which will run two tons
of hay to the acre while the natural
grass is remarkably fine. The
Caldwell ranches will have even a
better hay crop this season than
they had last.
J. B. Heyburn is having splendid
luck with his garden; all vegeta
bles are proving a success, demons
trating what can be done with the
rich soil with a small amount of
water, The I'all River Irrigation
Co. which is handling a project to
irrigate some 3000 acres 011 the
west side of the river above the
forks, at a recent meeting decided
to go ahead with the work and au
thorized the building of the divert
ing works and a mile of canal.
The work is now tinder way. L.
D. Wicst is doing the engineering.

L. F. Swift of Seattle Is in Bend
again. lie comes primmed with en
thusiasm, as usual, and predicts
great things for the town. One of
the most important features in
Bend's development, says Mr.Swift,
is the vastnesa ol the adjacent ter
ritory. There are dozens of towns
in Washington of from 3000 to
to 10000 population, situated in
small valleys, whose greatest tribu
tary territory Is limited by to
pographical conditions to an Insig
nificant fraction of that which Bend
rightfully may claim.
