moments, but was a very pleasant
event, as these informal gatherings

A Birthday Remembrance.
Monday was the birthday of both
Miss Ruth Kcid and Mr. J. M. Law
rencc, and in order to grace the oc
casion witn some lonn ot remem
brance. Mrs. Lawrence 'phoned to
a few friends and invited them to
spend the evenim? as her and Mr.
Lawrence's guests, Miss Rcid being
one of the number. Music nuil
merry chatter passed the time away
very rapidly, and added another
pleasant evening

I'rineville Stockmen Fined.
In offering their pleas of guilty
in the United States court yester
day, three I'rineville citizens in
formed Commissioner Cannon that
they did not take the newspapers
and had never heard that anyone
had been fined in Oregon for sur
rounding the public land with wire
fences.
The citizen who threw them
helves on the mercy of the court
were C. J Houston, J. J. I'ergu
son and Oscar Paugiit.
Judge Cannon pointed out that
they had profited enough from the
exclusive use of the lands to pay
annual subscriptions to the lending
newspapers of Oregon for the rest
of their natural lives, and imposed
a fine of $too each. Oregonian.
