LOCAL NEWS NOTES. Master Ronald Sellers was tut proud host yesterday afternoon to number of his hoy and girl friends, the occasion being in honor of Ronald's sixth birtbduy. A hand some large cake with six sptrkling candles made its appearance with other appropriate refreshments, at the proper time, to which the guest did ample justice. The guests,- as well as the host, enjoyed themselves fullv. and the little friends are al was glad when Ronald has birthday. As is always the case during ex trcraelv cold weather, the turbulent old Deschutes has much ice frozen on its rocky and mossy bottom. while the surface remains open, ex cept for the floating "mush ice." Through the crystal-clear watet one may look down at the mou beds and be L old a queer spectacle inthefotmo) huge, oblong, semi transparent ice formations, hanging to the ends of the numerous moos clumps, swaying to and fro and re minding one of an embryo of a nuge sea serpent and daily grow ing larger, while the cold weathet lasts. J. II. Wenandy has reccntl) bought quite a "snag" of hay from ranchers hereabouts 84 tons from G. W. Wimer A: Sons, 70 tons from I. J. Wimer, and 40 tons from R O. Chesley near Redmond. In ad lition to this Cal Katon and A. D Morrill, of Powell Outtes, arc now delivering at the barn hay which was purchased last fall. Bend is the leading market of this entire section for hay and all other kind of farm produce. A farmer need never bring a load of produce to Bend and take it back with him. Instead he invariably returns home with an empty wagon but with money in his pocket. A very pleasant social event oi the Holiday season was that given last Wednesday evening by Mrs. H. E, Allen and Miss Cornelia Wilson at the home of Mrs. Allen. A number of eames of various kinds and descriptions helped to pass the tithe most rapidly and en joyably, certain prizes being offered oy the hostesses for the most pro hctcnt of the contestants. Daniel Nordstrom of Alvarodo, Minn., is in Hcnd this week with the intention of buying irrigated land. Mt. Nordstrom is very well pleased with what he finds here and ts confident the Hcnd country is a good place in wliiclt to make in vestments. He came to Bend from Stanfield, Or., where be had pur chased irrigated land, raw and un improved, paying 350 an acre for it, and be said the price was to be advanced to fjjo an acre after January t. Hence irrigated land around Bend at $40 an acre looks especially good to him. "A large number of people in Minnesota and the Dakotaa arc looking this way," said Mr. Nord htrotn, "and next spring some 30 or 30 people that I know of nrc coming out from I'argo." Mr Nordstrom was also well pleased with the Bend climate and says he intends to locate here. Pleased with Article.
