The Ilcnd baud made some fairly good money out of their Christmas and New Years dances, on the first occasion taking in about $57 and at the last $43, with light expenses. George Jones had the misfortune to lose a good $300 horse out of his freighting team on his last trip to Shauiko. The animal became overheated, took lung fever, and died. Mr. ami Mrs. I'rank L. Ray Wilkinson left yesterday afternoon with the automobile for the railroad taking out his sister, Mrs. Creed Triplett and baby sou Merle, and Miss Lilly Lynes. Brandenburgh has sold his acre tract in Lytle to George Gurtson. consideration $1,000. Mr. Brandenburgh and family will move to Laidlaw to reside until he can build a house on his ranch three miles northeast of Laidlaw. He will build a two-story structure 30x28. Mr. Brandenburgh has a 1 Go-acre homestead there and his wife an adjoining 1 Co-acre desert claim. Mrs. J. M. Lawrence and daugh ter Marion, and Mrs. Lawrence's sister, Miss Williams, returned to Bend Saturday night to make their home after a four years' sojourn at Roscburg, where Mr. Lawrence has been receiver at the U. S.' land office. Mr. Lawrence was not able to arrange to come in now. .but will arrive later. During the winter, and until Mrs. Drake returns in the spring, they will make their home in the A. M. Drake residence. A wrestling match has been ar ranged to be pulled off next Friday evening in Lara's hall, the princi pals being Ben McMullen of The Dalles, who has been staying in Bend for several weeks, and J. M. Rice, of Bend. Mr. Rice claims to be the champion of southern Idaho, and has had much expedience on the mat, while McMullen promises to take care of himself and give Rice all that he is looking for. Sunday night the lowest notch of the season was reached by the thermometer when it registered I3j4 degrees be low zero. 1 his was followed by a very bright and comfortable day Mouday but again Mouday nliit the mercury began to hunt the low spots and Observer Minor's gov ernment thermometer showed the next morning that it had registered 8 degree below during th night. We havo had fully a mouth of good snug winter weather. "Uncle John" Slsemore stales that it wt beeu 33 years since winter set iu so early and stayed so persistently as it is doing now.
