formerly of Pomeroy, Wash., arc
recent comers to Bend. Mr. Mc

A. U. Augerson of Seattle, was
in Bend yesterday making invest
ments In reitl estate. He purchased
170 acres under the Arnold canal,
the land adjoining the Arnold ranch
on the south. Mr. Augerson is
connected with the realty depart
ment of Calhoun, Denny & Hwing,
Inc.
Mr. and Mrs. Win. Arnold will
leave next week for Brownsville.
Or, where they will remain until
about the first of the year. They
expect to spend the balance of the
winter in California, hoping that
Mr, Arnold's health will be. bene
fitted thereby. They will return to
Bend pext spring.
N. P. Smith has bought a stock
of builders' supplies and hardware
and will open for business in about
a fortnight in the Mutzig building
formerly occupied by the Branden
burg reatauraut. Before spring
Mr. Smith expects to put up a
building for his own use, a struc
ture 22x50 feet. A carload of his
supplies is iu Shaniko .now.
A popular illustrated lecture will
be given bv the Rev. John Lcwtas
on Saturday evening, Nov. 27, at 8
o clock in tbe Bend church, The
subject will be "What I saw in Kng-
land, Ireland, France aud Italy.
Illustrated by a powerful oxygen
hydrogen gas generator, with 200
superb views taken specially for
the lecture. As Mr Lewtas is one
of the leading lecturers on tbe Pa
cific Coast, this will be a rare op

Mayor Davidson is in receipt of
a letter from Mrs. Godfrey of Cali
fornia who claims to be the wife of
the man by the name of Godfrey
who gave ashow in Bend a week
or two ago. The letter ased for
Information as to Godfrey's where
abouts, with whom he was travel
ing, and in what relationship he
and his companion (a young lady)
had registered while here. The
letter was written on one of God
frey's old letterheads, which showed
hit picture aud supposedly that of
his wife aud two young daughters,
and the picture of the wife was not
that of the wpman in' whose com
pany he visited Bend. There is
evidently "something rotten iu
Denmark.
