Conrad Wlncll of Holdrcgc,
Neb., arrived in Ucnd last Sunday

evening, the attraction being a con

Rev, Mitchell received a 'phone
message Tuesday morning to' the
effect that Squire Hell of 'Prineville
had passed away, and requesting
Rev. Mitchell to conduct the funer
al services. The services are to be
held today at 3 o'clock. The de
ceased was the father of former
county judge W. A. flell, aud for
many yeur.s lind taken quite a
prominent part in Prineville life.
The home talent play, "Carl
Johnson, Woodmuu," which will
be given by the local M, W. A,
,odge next Saturday evening, prom
ises to be a' very pleasing affair
The play itself is a comedy, which
will furnish lots of laughter, and
the band ha agreed to furnish
music between nets. There will be
plenty of seal for the big crowd
that is expected. Admission, 15,
35 nnd 35 cents.

valent in regard to the matter and
it can be summed up In the terse
expression, "Why, of course, we
should celebrate." And of course
we arc going to celebrate, and will
hold out the glad and welcome
hand to every man, woman and
child who will be so kind as to
visit Bend on that day. The pro
gram in detail aud other arrange
ment will be announced in Tbe
Bulletin as the work progresses be
tween now aud the day of celebration.
Mr. L. D. Wicst returned home
last evening from an extended visit
with relatives at various California
points.
Philip Pranci is building an ad
dition onto Rev. Mitchell's house,
the new part measuring 18x21 with
I o-foot xtts.
Mis Anna Johnson will leave in
a few day for a visit in the East.
She leaves her position in the local
telephone office this week aud is
succeeded by Miss Nellie Scoggin.
Quite a number of dully vordin
trout have lcen caught by local
fishermen of late. M. J. Kelly
lauded several Sunday, tbe largest
one measuring 28 inches long, and
John Bios caught an 8 pounder.
L. S. Rlckartl of California is in
"end this week looking over this
section and will undoubtedly invest
in property hereabouts. Mr. Rick
ard is from an irrigated section in
California and is well pleased with
what he finds in the ileud country.
J. C. Smith, formerly of Chico,
California, spent the fore part of
the week iu Iknd looking for op
portunities to make investments.
He bought 160 acres of ditch land,
the southwest quarter of so-t7i3,
and has let a contract for tbe clear
ing of it.
There will be a special meeting of
the Knights of Pythias of Bend' to
night. Grand Chauccllor Moser
writes that he, G. K. of R. & S
Stinson and Judge Bradshaw, Su
preme Representative, will visit the
lodge on Saturday evening, May
