Governor Chamberlain's attitude
on the Central Oregon transporta
tion question is well known not
only to Mr. Harriman but to the
people of the state. There is no
uncertainty, therefore, as to what
course of action will be urged by
him in The discussion of the rail
road situation during his stay at
Pelican Iiay.
It is because of the known atti
tude of all three of Mr. Harrimau's
prospective guests and the added
official connection of Mr O'lirien
with Mr. Harriman and the O. K.
& N. that the invitation extended
at this time is looked upon as bear
ing a deep significance. It is be
lieved to be well within the range
of probability that the result of the
conference will be the commence
ment of construction work on the

Condon Line Begins Construction.
Work on the building of the elec
trie line from Condon into this sec
tion was begun at Condon on" Aug
ust 15, and it is said the first 40
miles will be completed in time to
handle the 1909 wheat crop. This
is the electric line that is to be
built from Condon to Foss.il and

with a line also to Prineville. This
line will also be built over the Cos-
