Last week Dr. Coc enjoyed a few
days' visit with an old University
ciass mate, Dr. H. Farrell of Car

look it over. lie' stopped at the

to the dining room otic morning
and found his old school mate seat
ed at a table, the first intimation
cither of them had that they were
within a thousand miles of each
other. The meeting was .1 mutual
surprise to both, and the subse
quent visit a very pleasant one.
J. X. Hunter. M. J. Kcllcy and
W. H. Sellers went out south of
town Tuesday to fight a fire in the
timber. The fire had started on
the Mrs. Lussier homestead and
had spread onto the claim former
ly owned by Millard Triplet!, burn
ing over in all about 40 acres, The
men succeeded in confining the
conflagration and stopped its spread
ing. It is thought the fire was
started by the children of some
campers setting Yirc to an ant hill
and then carclcisly allowing it lo
spread. Campers should be very
careful with fires as the timber is
very dry and a fire does much dam
age. Little Charley Merrill had a nar
row escape from a serious injury on
the Fourth, and as it was he re
ceived painful burns about the face
aud head. Charley was standing
about six feet from some sort of a
"Chinese 1'lowcr Pot" which had
been lit and which loppled over be
fore it went off. AsChnTlcy stooped
over to toucli off a fire cracker
the flower pot exploded, shooting a
mass of flame into the little chap's
face. His eyebrows and eyelashes
were burned off, his face quite bad
ly burned, and his hair singed off
close. His eyes were quite badly
injured, but the injury. will not be
permanent and he is recovering
nicely. He was a lucky boy to es
cape without more serious burns.
