GATHER AT WHITE HOUSE.
Governor Confer With 'President on
Conservation of Resource!.
Washington, May 11 History will
be made at this week's White House
confercnco on natural .resources. For
history-making conditions are remark
ably favorable. Never before bat a
President of tbe United States con
ferred with all tbe governor of the
states. Never before has the White
House, with itt long record of social
and state functions sheltered a large
convention called for tbe consideration
of a great public Issue. Ami never be
fore has the whole broad question of
tbo conservation of this country's nat
ural resources been brought before a
treat deliberate bodr as the sole sub
ject of it consideration.
'Win recention accorded to this project
Indicates that the people of the eountry
expect definite results of n far-reaching
character. After hearing from experts
the ennditions tbe country la facing, the
members of the conference will them
selves decide whether nnything ought
to be done, and what. Some have tug
rested tho advisability of forming a
great national organisation to carry
forward the plana originated In the
conference. The probability as that, at
the least, tome basis will bo laid for
future co-operation between the fed
eral nnd state governments In a vigor
ous policy of conservation, for one of
tbo things which will be shown most
forcibly at tho conference it that
neither the ttatit ior tho federal gov
ernment can siiko satisfactory headway
Independently.
