FRIDAY, MARCk 20, tool
One of the strongest' candidates
before the voters of the Ninth Sen
ntorial District for the ofiice of
joint-senator froni the counties of
Crook, Klamath, Lake and Grant
is Mr. L. F. 'Willits of
Klamath Falls. Mr. Willits is a
retired merchant bf about 50 years
of age, and is a staunch republican,
lie has large land interests in
Klamath county and is deeply in
terested in irrigation work, holding
land under the government project
in Klamath county. During the
next session of the legislature an
attempt will be made to pass an up-to-date
water law for Oregon, and
it is of the utmost importance to
.this district which is so exten
sively interested in irrigation work
to have senators and representa
tives in the legislature who have
given this subject study and
thought and who arc acquainted
with it through practical exper
ience. Mr. Willits has been in
Klamath county about 30 years and
previous to that lived in Lake
county. His long residence in this
district has given him an intimate
acquaintance with its needs ' and he
would represent the district with
nbiltty. It is generally conceded
that the senatorsbip will co to
Klamath county in this campaign.

In another column appears a very
complimentary mention in regard
to Mr Ellis, taken from the Mad
ras Pioneer. The article shows
how Mr. Ellis donated,, his services
as receiver free of charge when the
Bend bank was closed, and at the
same time performed his duties
with such merit as to call forth the
unstinted commendation of Judge
Uradshaw for the manner in which
he handled the receivership. This
affair is symbolic of Mr. Ellis as a
man. lie has undoubted ability,
and is so interested in the welfare
tjf this section that he would rather
donate his services than have the
people suiter loss turougu any ac
tion 01 ms. .Most men, in a stmt
lar position, would have pocketed
the receiver's salary a neat little
sum. But Mr. Ellis is not always
looking for an opportunity to Hue
his pocket at the expense of some
one else. Would not such a man
make an excellent county judge?
The Bulletin predicts that the
voters iviil answer, ,,Yes.,
County Treasurer W. P. King of
Priueville inserts his announcement
in The Bulletin this week, and
asks re-election to that office by the
voters of the county. Mr. King
has made one of the best treasurers
the county has ever had. His work
lias been entirely satisfactory W
the people add He will' poU- a
luge vote nt the primaries and, if
1 omiuated, at the general electioh
in June. The ' voters should not
Le in too much of a hurry to remove
au efficient officer when one is
found, aud for that reason The
Bulletin predicts that Mr. King
uill succeed bfinself. " ,'

Dr. U.C.Coc, candidate for repub
lican nomination for joint represen
tative from this district, was in
town last Sunday with Mr. Hills
from llcnd. Dr. toe's candidacy
is meeting with much encourage
ment from different sections of the
district, and in this county when;
he is especially well known, he is
sure to poll n heavy vott- at the
primaries. He is an enterprising,
public-spirited citiicu who is in
terested in the development of Cen

this district with ability and credit
in the state legislature.

When the Bend bank closed its
doors during the recent financial
panic, H. C. Hllis of Iknd was
appointed receiver by Judge Urad
shaw of the circuit court. Through
his cood management of the receiv
ership the bank was able in n short
time to resume business, the depos
itors being protected to the full
amount of their deposits. Mr. Ellis
made no charge for his services, ns
the records of the receivership will
show, and upo'u the resumption ol
business bv the bank he was hiehlv
complimented by the judge of the
circuit court upon ttic manner in
which the receivership had been
handled. It was his reputation for
good business and administrative
ability, together with his fairness
and high personal character, that
caused his friends to urge him to
enter the race for cbuuty judge
That he would give the county n
good business administration, deal
ing faitly with all sections without
fear dr favor of any clique or fac
tion, lione who know him can
