McCann are plowing on their homesteads in 10-12 this week ami will seed it to winter wheat the Cox variety. Robert Howscr mid Arthur Itly returuud to Heud Tuesday from Clin Falls where they had Ixen working on Mr. Dowser's desert claim. There has beau considerable rain fall during the week at Heud and vicinity and the farmer who has in any fall seeding is consequently happy. The Liuftter sawmill is one of the busiest places in Head these days. Its crew of men is kept busy sawing during the day, mid the planer is run at night. H. A. Griffin has hauled three loads of lumber to his homestead this week, for additions to his house. He is building an addition consisting of two bedrooms. J. A. Tracey of Portland has been in Heud during the week at tending to business matters con nected with the purchase of timber. He is the partner of O.J. Gray, who has frequently been in Heud, L. II. McCann has started work this week on a chicken house on Ids homestead in to-i?. It meas ures 10x16 feet. He will also build r leau-lo to the barn for a cow shed and later will build a hog shed and yard. W. S. Nichol is this week mov ing his stock of groceries and drugs from the Merrill budding across tlie street into the Mutzig building. He will also occupy the old Hend Fur niture Go's building for a store house. Genial "Dad" West returned Wednesday evening Irom a three mouths' stay at Princvillc, where he has been working on the new stone hotel. lie is now changing the location of a chimney in the I,. I). Wicst residence and Monday will start building a new fireplace for Mrs. Elsie Riley on her ranch north of town. One day last week while Andrew Robinson wai hauling logs for the Linster mill, the wagon wheels broke through the bridge that crosses the Pilot Hutte canal about a mile southeast of Bend, It re quired nearly a day of hard work to get the load off the bridge and wad the means of causing Mr. Robinson to lose three trips. There was no damage done except to the liven at Princvillc, The Hulk-tin is In great demand and eagerly read by many. A Hiib-icrlbor who recently spent several months in the county seat mid who had The Hulletin delivered at the hotel where he stopped, reports that frequently he was unable to vet The Hulletin for his own u.e until it was four or five days old, so eager were people to read it. Hugh O'Kmie has just installed a large septic tank to receive the sewerage fiom the Hotel Hend. It is mi air light, cement lined recep tacle in which the sewerage is dis poned of by germs feeding upon it These tanks are coming into quite general use for the dnponl of the sewerage from cities and large in stitutions such as asylums, orphans' homes, etc , and have proven very satisfactory wherever tried. The hunting party composed of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Drake, Miss Liza Woods, Miss Catherine Hums. A. L. Goodwillie and Dr. Coe re turned to Head last Saturday morn ing after nearly a three weeks' out ing in the upper Deschutes country. They went to within about 10 miles of Davis Lake, and although no liears were encountered, they did succeed in bagging a number of ducks mid pheasants. They re port a delightful time. John Sisemorc's black team took a spirited run down Wall street last Saturday and furnished consider able excitement for a few minutes They left the rear wheels and the lox in the street in front of The Hullciiu office, tore down the street, circled around the lots on which is the Heud Water, Light and Power buildiiiK, then ran down Ohio street eastward a short distance where they were stopped.
