There is a move on foot to estab
lish a mail route from Grizzly to
I.amoutn, Redmond and Laidlaw,
instead of taking the mail for (those
localities (lirpugir, Pr'neville., It is
said that the sending of the Ileud
and $i(vcr Lake mail that way is
also contemplated, as a saving in
mileage and having better roads to
travel over. At present Redmond
is served from Clinc Kails, though
the Priueville-Sisters mail stage
runs through Redmond. This tern
notary arrangement is expected to
be remedied soon.

knife blade was another contest en
gaped in, Miss Maggie Auue won,
and was presented with a desirable
picture, Missllclle Robinson scored
lowest and received a tiny spoon as
a prize. ' Ice cream and cake were

Mrs. Frank Hoguc, of Roslaud,
went to Silver I,nkc last week to
make proof on her homestead claim.
S. H. Dorrance, of the Dorrance
sawmill, near Sisters, was in Hcnd
Monday 011 the way up to his
homestead in 22-9. He was taking
up a load of lumber to provide
quarters for his stock.
Next Sunday evening the regu
lar monthly consecration meeting
of the Christian Kudcavor Society
will lc in charge of Miss Hatch.
All members arc requested to be
present to answer to roll call.
Miss Julia Hatch, returned mis
sionary from Siam, will give a
children's talk on Sunday morning
at 11 o'clock, and address the public
in the evening after the Christian
Kndeavor meeting. All are most

William McCormack, one of the
big ranchers from the Summer
Lake district, was in IJend Tuesday
accompanied by his family, -whom
he had been to meet at Shaniko.
Mr. McCormack is a cousin of Dun
can McMillan, and spent the time

Mrs. C. A. Jones has in her hen
nery a brood of chicks about two
weeks old. The mother hen is not
too dutiful and has been quite will

C. A. Chapman returned home
from Idaho Wednesday noon. He
brought 65 head of cattle as far as
Lamouta, mid left them in a ims
ture there. He brought two horses

hard trip and says he saw nothing
that looks so good to him while
away as the IJend country.
M. N. Neil!, of Laidlaw, has
taken homestead and desert claims
adjoining T. A. Jensen's ranch one
mile northwest of Tumalo postoffice
and will begin making improve
incuts there shortly. As soon as
his house is built on the homestead
he will move his family there and
establish a permanent home He

tented when he got back.

Lafdlatv's scientific farmers started
for The IXiHes Wednesday. He
will spetid a few weeks at Portland
and will then go to Eastern Wash
ington. He expects to return next
April and farm on the desert lands

to his old home in Dakota to wind
