Dr. Ossler, of Johns Hopkins,
lias declared that men begin to de
cline at the age of 40 and. at 60
might to be killed. From the amount

The city has established a dump
ground for refuse iu a ravine south
of the town plat and the town au
thorities are trying to get all refuse
from the street litter of trimming

cans, removed to that place. There
is much of that to be done, and

The sheriff of Wheeler county
was recently found to be short
$4,700 in the county's cash. There

popular and one of the best officials
ever in the -sheriffs office since

Most of the entertainment wasj

Kin, was well received and they '

Bend is not to be compared for a
ntomeut with a frontier raining
camp. Its strength is distinctly
agricultural. It depends on the
development of' farming and gener
al settlement of theccountry. It is
sure to have its' recurrent periods
of boom and depression. Doubt-
less the town "will suffer morel
or less from crude' immaturity, but
if the men entrusted with
Miss Mary Ritey, was- given hearty j
applause, and they 'responded with
onother charming selection. V.J,
O'Connor recited "The Vm Ha Ha
Family," in his characteristically
humorous style, aud for the encore
recited "Lucky Jim." The pro
gramme closed with a well rendered
M)lo, "A .Message front the Violets,"
"by Miss Marion Wwst, accompan
41 by Mrs. O'Couuo , and for the
encore gave "Honey Dew."
Fragrant coffee aud delicious
cake were served at small tablet
prettily dressed. The hall wax
tastefully decorated with mannmu
and Oregon grape.
