It is tough on Oregon to think of
having three of its congressional
delegation indicted for Hhnring in
the pewter ware hind conspiracy.
If guilty they should be punished
to the full extent of the law if
not guilty they should not have
been indicted, nnd certainly the
evidence against them should have
been well considered before the des
perate act was given to thewdrld,
Other senators nhd representatives

MAIL. OUT ON SUNDAY.
Hut Kono Out on Monday--Scven-dnv
Service Soon,
Col. V. V. Vallls, nssistant sup
erintendent of the railway mail
service for this division of the
United States and having super
vision of the .service in Central
Oregon, has returned from a three
month!' trip to Washington. He
was iu Prineville the first of
the week. Iu a message to
The llullctin he said the trouble
over the mail from Silver Lake
was due to n misunderstanding o
orders. The Silver Lake postmast
er had been directed not to scud
mail north Friday night at mid
night. Hy mistake he held the
mail Friday morning midnight.
All that has now been straightened
out.
Now, however, the schedule pre
viously iu force at Silver Lake has
been restored, but a change has
lwcu made at Heud. Hereafter mail
will go north from Heud Sundays
but opt Mondays. This is foe the
purpose of getting prompt despatch
for Saturday's mail, it being as
sumed that few business letters re
quiring quick service will be writ
ten on Sunday. Thevolume of Sun
day mall Is usually large but it is of
social rather than business nature.
It is understood, however, that
the daily mail service to Heud re
cently petitioned for will .soon be
inaugurated and that wc will not
be without the outgoing Monday
mail but n few weeks, at most.
QUtiBR BUROLARS AT WORK
Two Scared from O'Kuiie's Ware
liotmo Tuesday Night.
Shortly nfter dark Tuesday even
ing two men climbed on the top of
O' Kane's liquor , warehouse, near
his residence on Oregon street, nnd
tried to get through the cupola
down ninong the wet goods below.
Mr. O Kane happened to be near
by at the time, and saw the men at
work. He had a small electric
laini) iu his nockct which he turned
on the bilrgiars, nl the same time
calling for Ids wife to bring his gun.
The thieves lost no time in getting
down nnd away. In reporting the
matter Alderman O Kane said he
thought he could identify the man.
Tlte next day the alderman
made another examination of the
premises apd then reported the
best joke of the season upon him-

Since this became known The
Oflicc has been a favorite resort
for people necking burglars.
One night hist week u man went
to the Poiudexter tent, next to Al
Herman West's, and took posses

day he carefully locked the place
and took the key with him.
