Harry lleisiug, SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL Twelve-mill Tax Voted for Next Year, liUILMNU PLANS DISCLjSSfiD Sentiment In Favor of Dent of IJdu cntlonnl Facilities for Ilcnd Children. , That Bend believe in a good public school was shown last Wed nesday night when, at the school meeting called for that purpose, a special district tax levy of 12 mill was voted. The board presented a statement of the conditions of the district and it.s needs and' recom mended a levy of at least 10 mills. Two mills more wart levied without objection. This will yield $1633, if nothing is allowed for delin quents. Chairman Wiest, in presenting the statement for the board, said the uumtttr of children in the Heud schools is increasing nl the rate of Nix a mouth. At this rate the present two rooms would bo much crowded by the end of this year, three rooms wolud Ite nccccssary at the beginning af next year and by March, 1906, four rooms would be necessary. On the basis of three rooms thu expense for the year be ginning next July were estimated as follows. Teui-licr's mdariH (X) . - tl.000 Janitor aarvkrwi KXI Fuel 100 InWjrwt 100 Water .......... Sfi laelduittulri M "flVTB This docs not include rent lor two rooms, about 325, which will be ncccAKary if the district does not' build a new schoolhousc. The ituttfful nawi pays $tt-So a rJiionth lor one .school room. Hits tor nine mouths of the school year amounts to 1 12.50, or sufficient to (sty 6 (ter cent interest (the bond rate) on 1875. Por the two rooms that will be necessary the district would have to pay in rent a sum which would pny interest on $3750 and that sum put into a building would furnish much better school facilities than the rented rooms would . The apportionment of county and state lunds will, it is estimated, yield this district $850 to $tooo. This, with a jo-mill levy on the taxable valuation of 136.040, would bring the district $3,210 to $2,360, allowing no deductions for delin quent taxes or by reason of district division, Therefore the board re commended the levy of at least a to-mill tux for current expenses next year. At the conclusion of the report Dr. Nichol said he believed in good schools and moved that the levy be fixed at 12 mills instead of the 10 suggested by the board, as he was satisfied the demands of a com munity like this would run ahead of the estimates bvi'oic the end of next year. The motion was .second ed and carried without optOMiiou. Incidentally the matter of bond ing the district for a new school house was discussed. The rough estimates presented were $3,000 for n .(-room building, which would answer for only altout a year ami a hall, and $4300 for an 8- room building. The building debt al ready hanging over the distiict would require aboilt $kx to pay. Theiefore authority to issue 5,000 of ItomU, as the) might become ueceaoary, wan deemed advisable. The district limit would be $6,800. However, the bowling matter will remain to be arijuottd in the futuie. Mists Grace Jones will arrive in the city soon to spend the winter with her mother, Mrs. C. A. Jones. Mist Jones is a vocal teacher who has studied several yents under Miss Clara Monger, of Uostou. She will given recital at the church, nimouuceinent of which will be umdc later. . 1 Dry Goods Groceries Hardware. Boforc purchasing elsewhere get our price on SHKLl'nnd BUII.DItKS'.
