Co. at Bend, is an interesting performance. I. K. McCord liua the work in charge and be n aited by I.. Yancey and William Hogg. In half a day a pair of ranger is re duced to harness Kovernincul and tbe further education of the animals comes in tbe regular course of their workaday life. In brief, tbe breaking ii accom plished by putting a man with a whip and a horse in a small corral. Tbe wikl hotte tries to get away but finds no aveque of escape It runs around the corral until tired. Then the breaker ap proaches the horse, which starts for another run. DAILY MAII; SERVICE Prom Bend to Silver Lake Next Week tf DAILV I.INIJ THKOUQII TATB Contractor Allliiylmni has Sent In bis lloiid-WIII Make ItcmJ llcn(liiiarter.i The government has ordernl a daily mail service between Iknd ami Silver take, to go into effect about the middle of this month. Notice of the exact dale is to 1 givcfi later. I.. H. Allittgham, who has the present contract for tri weekly service, will carry the daily. He will at once move his head quarters from Prineville to Kend in order to 1 in closer touch with the route. This increase in the mail facilities between Itend and Silver I.ake completes the chain of daily mail service across the state north and south, between the railroad at Shaniko and the railroad at Made line, Cal. From Silver take to Paisly it is a night run, a.t it i from Itend to Kosland and from Shaniko to Prineville. Th re mainder of tbe route is carried by daylight. The schedule wilt be ujwn the same hours n the present tri weekly service from fiend to Silver take; wit it will lw six times a week instead of three times as it' is now. When the automobile line be tween Heud and Shaniko slut!! lie in operation, the latter part of the year, the transportation problem 111 Central Oregon will be much sim plified. .Mail and express will get through otut to Iwcf days earlier, and a week- to 10 days will be saved in puttfifg fialgtf ttrrtftfph to Silver take. Also much will le Raved in the matter of wear and tear and breakage. DIKBCT FROM DEND TO BURNS Proposal for New SI age Routc--Gap Only 2H Mllos. A movement is on foot for a direct .itage line between Heud and Hums. It will pass by way of Crook, Price and File. The gap of 28 miles between Heud and Crook remains now to be arranged for. The present stage line from Prineville to Bums passes up Crooked river through Post, Paul ina and Fife. It is practieully as sured that a mail .service will soon be established between Fife and Crook. Crook is 30 miles south east or Prineville and only 28 miles from Heud, 11 little south of cast. At present there is not much truvel over this route, but it is a level country and there is alread an excellent road that fc 11 boulevard all the year. This change will probably cause a readjustment ot routes whereby Hums will have its chief road to market and (0 the railroad by way of Heud and the l'riuevilte-Hurus route will be deflected or trans muted intou Priueville-Canyon City toute. The present trend of devel opment in Central Oregon seems to profagc such alterations in the Avenues of communication. . ,The prospect of automobile trans portation to Heud brings n dcinnud from nil sections for connection With this center, which is rapidly nssiimintr iniiwrtance for its .mer cantile trade as Well as for facility of t'edchihg railroad, , t il.iW.
