The occasion of the friendly invasion was a game of baseball contested last Sunday by the Rend and Priueville teams. The vanguard of the enemy was captained by S. M. Bailey and con sisted of the following young Indies, cliajwrotied by Mrs. Jordan: MI..M Otegla iMgea, Nellie lajr, Mamie Vanler(ool, ISjy Ittxlxc. Oertle Sharp, Ira lloitli ami Hemic I'olmteatcr The hall Ixsing in use Saturday evuuiug, Mr. Lucas, of the I'ilot Rutte Inn, gave the young eop1e the use of the hotel office and n few hours were seiit very pleawintly in dancing, the fair invaders leiug made to feel jxirfcctly at home, they hoping that at some future time they may have the opportun ity to again move their forces 011 our town, which very probably will lc given them on the Fourth of July. Sunday morning the deep and sonorous tones of the megophoue announced the arrival of the main army of the enemy, among whom were: llrMeO'r,C J. Dcutcst, Is in Rend for a fqw days at Pilot Rutte Inn. Rirst-cliuw dental work of all kinds. o'clock attended the service held by Rnv. Z. W. Coruuierford. at Grant's hall. ' v At 2:30 the pitched battle between the Priueville and Rend ba.scb.-tll nines was begun, time being called by Umpire Harold Rnldwiu, of Priueville, with Rend at the bat. Rend was presented with "o" by Priueville, while the Athletes se cured 4 runs during their time at bat. Rend had to accept another goose egg in their inning, while in their inning Priueville was given one more credit mark. Thinus were looking hazy for Rend up to the 3rd inning, but they then "helped themselves to the mustard" and jxmuded the ball for 4 tallies things were looking better to home folks. Mcl.eod was put m the lxx for Rend iu Priucville's half of the third nnd they were held down .for one run. In the 4th and .sth they were presented with ciphers. Rend iu the 4th inning had to Ik? content with an oval(o), but iu the 5th they earned two credits, and one iu the 6th, which placed them even with Priucville's Athletes. Rut iu the 7th Priueville "hogged the mustard" and played tag around the bases till they had 6 runs. Iktul in the 7th got one tally, but iu the Sth nnd Qth were handed goose eggs. The Athlete were given an oval (o) iu the 8th but in the oth "cut the mustard" lor one more credit, the contest ending 14 to 8 in favor of the Priueville Amateur Athletic Club. The Priueville ball team showed excellent teutn work and was at all times "iu the game" Tho Rend nine showed better iu batting than iu the Held, but their hits mine nt inopportune times. Although the score looked bad for Rend, the boys should have Ikhmi beaten byn much smallur margin as two glaring er rors were directly responsible fpr the bad showing. It is exjweted that a return game may be pulled off nt Priuevillb-on June 12. Rend may not be able to send so large a contingent of "root ers" but will try to make tin for the deficiency with lots of noibc.
