surmounted by strata, in which fossils
abound. In these fossils aro many sea
mollusks, bones of vertebrates and
leaves of trees. Tlio whole egion
greatly resombles that of Patagonia, ot
which it scorns to bo a projection. No
lako animals of any kind nro found
thoro, but marine fauna nro abundant,
as well as birds, Tlio climate Is ex
ceedingly cold. Winds blow continu
