The word evolution is being used in different ways, to deceive many. Some people mean by it the change, in millions of years, of one kind of animal «Into another. The idea Is preposterous and contrary to all that we know and that true science teaches us. There is no trace of Buch a thing as one kind of animal’s turning Into another kind of animal unywhere to be found in nature. The theory Is wild and utterly with out proof. The links of evidence are missing; and all the evidence we have goes to show that the animals were created each "after Its kind,” and that they have always so con tinued. No one can truthfully deny this. A recent Issue of the Graphic had this thought in one of its lines: No one can be a safe and true religious teacher who does not first divest himself of his own opinions, views and prejudices, so as to approach the study of Christ with a clear mind. One reader says this cannot be done, that no one can rid himself, at least of some of his own pre-conceived opinions. Nevertheless it was this primary truth that our Master ex pressed plainly with reference to Himself when he said, I do nothing of myself, but as the Father taught me, I speak. I can of myself do nothing; as I hear I judge. See John 12:49. And Btmilariy He satd to His friends. Without Me. ye can do noth ing. And later, Paul said, I am nothing, but Christ is all. The same is often repeated in the guide book, in various ways, and there is a deep and splendid philosophy or reason in it all; for to be a real master of any study, one must get his mind wholly into the inductive state, the condition of inquiry and investiga tion without reference to one’s likes or dislikes of what is discovered. People who do not thus divest ihem- selves of prejudice and preconceived notions, never can be safe scientists and students, much less teachers. Christ can do this for us. ---------- o---------- CHRISTIAN CHURCH Saturday of last week this con gregation held Its annual business meeting. Following the dinner, which was served at noon by the sis terhood, reports were read from the various departments of the church. Ail told of an active year, and though some only presented the re port since April last they were of a most encouraging character. The congregation now numbers 175 and during the past year has had a 15 per cent increase in membership. The total monies received both for mis sions. and local expenses amounted to $1530, an increase of approxi mately 30 per cent over the previous fear. The blble school presented a report for the past eight months which showed an average attendance of 88, with an average collection of $4.04, beside which there has been collected for benevolences $(105.00. The C. E. societies also presented re ports showing gains in numbers and activity. The women’s missionary society has held its regular sessions and has added to the above named sums for missions by dues and special collections from Its members. No auxiliary o f the church spoke of other than some increase over the preceeding year and all are encour aged at the prospect for the coming year. Newberg Packing and Produce Co.
