lecture at two o’clock at the Meth­

On Saturday evening last. Prof.
J. B. Horner, of the historical de­
partment of the Oregon Agricultural
College gave an illustrated lecture
on Oregon at the community hall.
The large audience enjoyed every
minute of the lecture, the only crit­
icism being the general one "It was
too short.’’ It Is hoped Mr. Horner
will come again, and satisfy our cu­
riosity and real ambition to know
Oregon better, by telling a host of
things that had to be left out of this
first lecture. Oregon Is too big a
subject to cover In one evening and
many Dundeeltes are, envying the
Portland people who are to have the
opportunity to hear Mr. Horner on
this subject each Friday evening at
the public library.

tances attended the funeral services
of Robert Lloyd Henry at McMinn­
ville on Sunday. Mr. Henry was a
teacher in the Dundee schools when
his call to join his company came.
He was the only man from this im­
mediate section who fell in action,
death coming to him on October 20,
1918, just twenty-two dayq before
the armistice was signed. Mr. Hen­
ry’s body was received in McMinn­
ville on October 20th, exactly three
years from the date of his death. He
was buried with military honors, in­
terment being in the family lot at
Lafayette. Mr. Henry was highly
esteemed in Dundee, where his work
in school and his interest in the
young people were greatly apprecia­
ted.

cal year. Through Its Nursing Service,
Its Home Hygiene and Care of the
Sick courses, nutrition classes. First
Air classes, Life-Saving classes and
Health Centers and In numerous other
ways designed to acquaint masses of
citizens with proper methods of living,
the Red Cross carried Its message of
health Into all parts of the country.
The work of the Red Cross during
the war In Its traditional field of nurs­
ing, furnishing the military and naval
establishments of the nation with 19,-
877 nurses, Is well known. And there
are today 37,787 nurses registered with
the American Red Cross and subject
to call In emergency. During the fis­
cal year, 1,961 Red Cross nurses were
accepted for assignment to Govern­
ment service, 388 by the Army and
Navy and 1,103 by the United States
Habile Health Service.
In addition to the nurses enrolled
by the Red Cross for Government serv­
ice, the' Red Cross itself employed a
total of 1,348 public health nurses In
the United State* and Europe. By far
the greatest number was employed In
the United Stages, 1,297, while 81 were
In foreign service.
