The methods of apple profiteers are exposed effectually in Ethel Clayton’B new Paramount picture “ A City Sparrow’* which will be shown at the Baker Theatre on Fri day and Saturday. When David Muir, a farmer, por trayed by Clyde Fillmore, pays ninety cents for three apples aboard a train, he remarks Indignantly, “ Three ap ples. ninety cents! That’s what I get for a bushel of them.” The train man pays scant attention to thla »age remark, but it sinks deep into the hearts and minds of the specta tors who are being systematically mulcted by profiteers of every de scription throughout the country. Becoming a butler in one's own household in order to cure one’s wife of snobbishness is going pretty far, but it works out effectively and re sults in much good humor in Thomas Meighan’s new starring vehicle, ‘‘Ci vilian Clothes,” which will occupy the screen at the Baker Theatre next Monday and Tuesday. The picture was adapted from Thompson Buchan an’s stage play of the same name. “ Civilian Clothes” is the story of an American array captain who mar ries a young society girl in France. She Is in love with his uniform more than with the man who wears it. Consequently when, after she has be lieved him killed in action, he re turns to America and calls upon her in ill-fitting civilian clothes, she can not conceal her disgust for him. Thereupon, he sets out to teach her a much needed lesson and «succeeds beyond his fondest hopes. = M cCoy Brothers Local Dealers
