Editor, Mae Waterman; Assistant Editor, Wyrl Allman; Reporters, Ber nice Bullock, Charlie Carlisle, Elenor Buy, Irene Hollenbeck, Rose Schoad, Helen Evereat. The County Fair held here last Friday evening was a success and afforded much amusement. The High school boys gave wiling assis tance to the girls. Although mauy of the students attended the fair we would have been glad if more parents had been with us to enjoy the fun. One of the amusements was a mov ing picture show at which the baby pictures of the Seniors were shown. The baby show proved to be very interesting. There were babies of ail sizes and dispositions. Two of the most interesting amusements were the minstrels and chorus girls. They sang many songs and gave tfocjl Jokes. And last but not least was the fortune telling. We learned about our future as well as the past and present. The Fair remained open until about 11 o'clock and ev eryone left tired but in good humor. exception of a decrease in the num ber of snaps on account of the weath er conditions. The Annual staff Is doing Its best to have this year's Chehalem a great success. % Domectic Science Department There have been.thirty-seven girls enrolled In the Domestic Science classes this year, and they certainly have accomplished wonders. They do practical cooking and serve a cafeteria luncheon at noon, three days out of each week, and the proceeds buy practically all tbs pro visions for the department. A cook book Is being published contain tested receipts. This book will be sold and the money received will be left In the department. The girls under the supervision of Mrs. Waterman feel that their time in the Domestic Science has been well spent. a ground rich In organic matter, and somewhat acid. , • “ These are the natural conditions which abound In tha territory be tween the coast and the Cascade range, and It la because these condi tions abound that this section will ultimately become as famous for its berries as the Mediterranean is for Its fruits. "Especially is this true with such fruits as the red raspberry, the black- cap. the stiff cane blackberry and the trailers auch as the Evergreen black berry, the Mammoth, the Himalaya, the gooseberry, loganberry and the currant. "While strawberries can be grown In' every state in the union, it is true, however, that a certain type of strawberries is being developed in this belt, that is not being produced in any other section of the world. We have made a substantial Btart In berry production in the district mentioned. -'"The Puyallup district has long been famous for Its red raspberries. The Vashon Island district for straw berries, the Willamette Valley and the coast country In Oregon, especi ally for the heavy production of lo ganberries, raspberries, blackcaps and evergreen blackberries." The Oregon Grower, published in the Interests of the fruit and nut growers of Oregon, has called its May, 1921, issue the "Berry and Horticulture Products Number.” It would seem that the new organ ization "The Berrlans" was launched at a wonderfully opportune time, and none too soon either, In view of the wide publicity being given to the berry Industry at the present time. Those who attend the meeting Tuesday evening of next week, will have an opportunity to become chart er members of this new organization. ' A goodly, local representation of both sexes is desired and expected at the meeting. ---------- o--------*-r Agriculture Class Goes to 0. A. C.
