The six-weeks examinations took
place in all of the classes on Wednes­
day and Thursday of last week.

The editorial staff of the Senior’s
annual, the "Chehalem” has beep
elected. It constats of the f ollowin g:

About 150 subscriptions have been
taken for the ’’Annual.'’
Several of the alumni members
visited the High school last week.
Among them were: Mina Lutz. Grant
Yergon, Whitmer McDonald, Beatrice
Towers. Rudolph Scbaad and Lucy
Youngs.

the holidays at home
On Monday December 20, Mr.
Huddleston gave a lecture on the
Philippine Islands.
He was. until
recently, a missionary in the Philip­
pines for about fourteen years, and
presented facts and conditions re­
garding those islands as they really
are. He told of the wonderful ad­
vancement that has taken place there
under the rule of the United Sûtes.
English is the dominant langauge in
the schools, and it is also spoken by
a large percentage of the general
public. Modern school houses have
been built to accomodate 900.000
children. The most noteworthy fea­
ture about these schools is that they
are practical in training. Univer­
sities. libraries, churches and other

week, stopping Monday night at Ot-
terbrook. He was accompanied by
his daughter. Miss Jean E. Steel,

Mr .and Mrs. Teodore Kay had a
family reunion on Christmas day, the
first time all ’of the children have
been together for several years. Mr.
and Mrs. R. B. Kay and Mr. and
Mrs. David Kay of Portland were
present.
Mr. and Mrs. Bland Herring had
a family gathering at Christmas time,
their children and grandchildren
from Portland and relatives from
Lafayette, as well as those in Dundee
and visinity being present, twenty-
eight in all.
Misses Sally Beck and France*
Rocchi spent Christmas holidays in
Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernhard Oroth had
a number of their children and
grandchildren with them on Christ­
mas day.

denominations. The lecture was il­
lustrated with a fine set of sterop-
ticen views, and was both interest­
ing and Instructive. Hawaiian music
by Harley Banes and Clifton Denott
was very much appreciated by the

The school gave closing exercises
last Thursday which were excep­
tionally good, the tree, all beautiful­
ly decorated with tinsel and presents
being one of the many features of the
program. School takes up next Mon­
day. January 3.

the Chehalem Center church last

Last Wenesday evening while the
young people were practicing for
the Christmas exercises at the
church, someone was mean enough
to steal the best tire o ff of Rev.
Paul Lewis’ car.
Evidently they
were frightened away, for they had
another one partly off.

the malay missionary, preached ■
very forceful sermon at the Cheha­
lem Center church, last Sunday
night.

are visiting her parents. Mr. and Mrs.

Idaho they expect to locate some­
where around Newberg.
