The Newberg Farmers’ club held their regular meeting In the hall at the A. Rupert Co. cannery last Sat urday. A good number of enthu siastic farmers were prosent and showed their interest by asking ques tions bearing on the various phases of fruit growing, as this' was tbs subject under discuaaion. The president of the club, Mr. Bradshaw, gave a short talk on thw club’s work in general. Mr. KIlham also said a few words on better c o operation in educational lines among the farmers. He urged the farmers to get together in a club that all might profit by the experience o€ the individual. W. A. Frost, president of the A. Rupert Canning Co., gave a very Interesting and instructive talk upon fruit from* the canners’ point of view. He spoke for better and closer rela tions between the growers and can ners, as one is the complement o f the other. The grower needs the market, which the cannery furnish«» and the canner needs the produce o f the growers. Therefore, he says, It is to the beet interest of the canner» to pay the very best prices possible, and give to the growers as many ad vantages and helps as are within their power. He also expressed himself as be ing in favor of co-operation anxmg the growers. Better standards are established and crops can be grown and delivered more satisfactoraly to both producer and canner, if the growers will organize themselves in to clubs where every one may express his opinion, listen to the opinions o f bis neighbors, then by the combine- better than they learned at home.
