Paints Picture# Only That They May

Generations
History doe# not relate for the sake
o f relating; It does not paint for tb*
sake o f painting; It relates and paint*
tbe paa^that It may be a living lesson
o f the future. It proposes to Instruct
now generations by the experience of
June 10,. 1920 those who have gone before them, by
exhibiting to them a faithful picture
of great and Important events with
their censes and their effects. with
general designs und particular p**-
aioos, with tbe faults and virtues that
are found commingled In human
things. It teaches tbe excellence of
prudence, courage, and great thoughts
profoundly meditated, constantly pur
sued, and executed with moderation
and force. It shows the vanity e f
Immoderate pretensions, tbe power o f
wisdom and virtue, the Impotence o f
folly and crime. Thucydides, Polybius,
and Tacltns undertake anything rather
than procuring new emotions for an
Idle curiosity or a worn threadbare
Imagination.
They doubtless desi.e
to Interest and attract, but more to
Instruct; they are the avowed masters
o f statesmen and the preceptors of
mankind.— Victor Cousin.

Much Sugar in This Maple.
The hard or sugar maple 1* by far
the most important o f all tbe maples.
The lumber Is valuable for many pur
poses. but the unique thing about tbe
tree Is the abundance o f sweet sap
which It furnishes, says the American
Forestry Magaxlne of Washington.
While all the maples have sweet sap
none o f the others are so Important as
sugar producers. This was appreciat
ed In early times and a century and a
quarter ago when the real estate men
o f the time were attempting to lore
New England men to Pennsylvania
lands “ out west" they put on their
map In big letters. “The Sngar Tree
Grows Here.“
