W H Y GOLD COINS A R E BEST
Tho peculiarity of sold which
makes it valuable is its hardness
and its wearing properties.
Gold
coin loses one-hundredth part only
of Its weight in 50 years, while sil
ver loses as much In 10 years.
Again, gold Is discolorsd by scarcely
anything with whleh It can come In
contact. It Is hardly affected by
exposure to the air and It Is unal
tered by strongest acids.
" A third peculiarity of gold is the
fact that It can he beaten or rolled
into thin sheets. By a rolling mill
It can be beaten out thinner than
any other metal, and to such' an .ex
tent that leaves of gold laid upon
one another to the number of 300,-
000 only measure one Inch thick.
Again, one grain can be drawn out
Into 500 feet of wire.
We talk of things being as heavy
as lead, but gold Is nearly twice as
heavy, though few people have had
the chance of holding mucl^ gold
in their hands as lead and so com
paring them. And they will have
less chance still* In the future, for
gold will be scarce for many years
to come.
