SNAKE STOWES LOSING OUT
So quickly has the Idea of substi
tuting motor bus lines for trolley ex
tensions spread throughout the coun
try, that the Motorbus Bureau re
cently established by the Goodyear
Tire k Rubber Company has been
( flooded with requests from traction
companies In all parts of the United
States for information concerning
their operation.
Created for this purpose, the bu
reau, supervised by R. W. Baldwin,
manager of the motorbus division
of the company's truck tire depart
ment, 1 b supplying free, data on
methodp of collecting fares, type* of
busses, ventilation, heating, sched
ules. method of cleaning and opera
tion costs.
Convinced by its own pioneer
work In motor bus transportation
that the pay-ae-you-enter bus will
be a great factor In solving the prob
lem of the Inadequate trolley ser-
exlstlng throughout the coun
try, the company decided to give
anyone Interested the benefit of the
data compiled from the operation of
Its own bus lines, In a praiseworthy
attempt to held municipalties solve
pressing transportation problems.
New bils lines are being estab
lished in many sections of the coun
try. Street car companies are try
ing out the motor bus as a substi
tute for trolley extensions that are
unprofitable and are establishing
lines into new suburban territory
that needs service but previously
counld only be reached by trolley ex
tensions that would call for heavy
Investments for franchises and equip
ment. M)any inquiries are being re
ceived by the bureau from cities
that are too small to have a street
car syetfm, but must have means of
transportation.
