the pen of Fred G. Cooper, the
noted cartoonist and former Mc
Minnville boy. In the same is

Cooper obtained his first job
with the New York Edison Com
pany. He was introduced to
the manager of the advertising
department by Will Irwin who
was then reporting on the New
York Sun. Cooper had never
met Irwin but since both had
lived in San Francisco, the West
ern spirit was such as to estab
lish a friendship between the two.
Cooper was twenty-one when he
went to New York but he had
the stuff in him that won, and
since that day the initials “ f g c”
have appeared at the bottom of
many bits o f fine lettering, car
toons and illustrations in Life,
Collier’s and other periodicals.
Mr. Cooper is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. C. Cooper, gf this city.
