At the meeting o f the Literary
Society, held October 7, it was
decided to purchase, it possible,
a piano this winter. This will
be done by the combined efforts
o f the Ladies Club, the school
and the Literary Society. The
first program ot the year will be
held October 21 in the school
house auditorium.
S. S. Duncan, school superin­
tendent, o f McMinnville, was a
school visitor this week.
Mr. Sbyder, ot the Dayton
Evaporating C o., has been in'
Springbrook for the past week
buying and packing apples.
Bert Dean, o f Los Angeles,who
has been visiting his parents
here, was called home the first o f
the week.
Miss Neta Stater, o f Portland,
was a week-end guest at the
Sawyer home.
Mrs. T. H. Fearey returned
home Friday, after an extended
visit in Portland. J. L. Fearey
spent Sunday at home.
Lyle Burgoyne and A. S. Griggs
have been in LaFayette for a
week helping harvest apples in
the Lownsdale orchards.
Mrs. E. M. Parry and Miss
Howland, both nurses from
Portland, spent the week-end at
Keystone ranch, the home of Mr.
and Mrs. J. S. M ontgomery.
Clyde Carey came home Tues­
day tor k b rief visit, alter being
aw ay several months on a sur­
veying trip in Washington.*
J. A. Jones left Tuesday after­
noon on a business trip to South­
ern Oregon.

Mr. Jenkins, traveling passen­
ger agent for the S. P. Company,
was in Springbrook Monday.
M iss Yalasta Kutchanek went
to Portland Sunday, where she
will .be for some time, visiting
friends and relatives.
Dr. Claude A. Lewis, who has
been in Mills City all summer,
returned Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Alma Hunt returned to
her home in Lepta Wednesday,
after a visit o f several weeks
with her sister, Mrs. Matilda
Hoskins.
Several carloads o f gravel have
been shipped in for distribution
on the mountain roads near
here. The work has been do­
nated by the men of the commu­
nity. The road being improved
is from J. L. H aw orth’s home
dow n the hill, and has needed
attention for some time.
Mrs. Fred Kincaid and child­
ren spent Sunday with friends in
Dundee.
Mrs. Elisabeth Palmer, our
new pastor, arrived late Tues­
day evening, having made the
trip from Washington by auto­
mobile.
Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Roberts
who have been in Centralia,
Washington, the past summer,
are spending a time w ith Mrs.
Robert’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Mrs. Beckman, o f Portland,
spent several days with her

The October meeting at
Ladies’ Aid met at the home of
Mrs. John Winters Thursday
afternoon and a splendid attend­
ance was recorded by the stcgt-
tary. The topic o f the afternoon
“ Efficiency” was well handled
by the members, several interest­
ing articles being read. A deli­
cious luncheon was served by the
hostess and a very pleasant
afternoon voted by all. The next
meeting will be at the home ot

day afternoon. An enjoyable
