Trespassing on Railroad R i g h t - of way Responsible for M any Accidents. A t the Methodist church at 8 p. m. on next Saturday night, Rev. Guy F. Phelps, will deliver his noted lecture on the “ Horrors o f the Underworld,” which will prove a startling revelation to many o f the unholy tactics pur* sued by the spoilers to ensnare their victims. The lecturer is a minister and is the author o f “ Ethel Vale, the White Slave,” a story o f the slave traffic that was published in the Christian Advocate during the year. lie has devoted years ofhis life along this line of work and speaks from a personal knowledge o f this menace to womanhood. I t has been found that more than fifty per cent o f the accidents that occur on this road happen to trespassers. The safety committees on the Southern Pacific were organized last Jane and since that time every accident o f any description, has been investigated by the committees and a remedy sug gested to prevent a repetition. Each of the ten divisions ot the Southern Pacific has a safety committee that meets once a month to discuss the accidents o f the past thirty days. A ma jo rity ot these accidents minor, such as smashed finf and bruised limbs. “ Safety ) is the watchword and the ticular object o f the meetings is to diScuss methods o f preventing such accidents. Keeping the slogan “ safety first” uppermost in every em ploye’s mind is a big part o f the work o f these committees.
