Newberg is to have a new city hall next spring and the chances are it will be built fire proof. The law should show no mercy for the assassin, for it is not his fault if his bullets fail to kill. With President Taft elected for another four years, next year's prosperity will be bigger and better still. Neither the farmer nor the workingman wants tree trade in place of the present conditions o f prosperity. ■i. .i ~ ~ .......... — The Boston Red Sox are now the champions o f the world, de feating the New York Nationals three' to tw o in ten innings, in their last stand Wednesday. A. E. Scott, owner and pub lisher of the Washington County News-Times has returned from his trip East. He had a pleasant tn p but was awfully glad to get back to Oregon. During the last Democratic administration the workingman could buy a pretty good suit o f clothes for $8.00, but he did no{ have the price. Under Repub lican rule he has been buying $25.00 suits of clothes—and he has the price. Republican candidate for U. S. Senator Ben Selling, accompa nied by Senator J. L. Hoskins, were in Newberg Monday sum ming np the former’s prospects in this locality. Ben is one o f the best and from the welcome he re ceived from our citizens, he has no cause to worry about the Newberg vote. With this issue the Graphic starts another volume, with the jo b hook full and the editor cele brating the event underneath the paw paw trees at Blooming- dale, Indiana. The year just passed has been a prosperous one, every effort being put forth to make the Graphic one of the best local papers in the state. The Daily Capital-Journal has changed hands, Colonel E. Hofer, sole editor and proprietor, hav ing disposed of bis interest to L. S. Barnes, of Salem, and Graham P. Tabor, o f Logansport, Ind. Hofer intends to continue in the publishing business, but will en ter a larger field. Mr. Tabor will have complete management o f th£ paper. The plant will be moved into new quarters on State street, tw o additional lino type machines and aGoss-Comet press installed, and the paper will be enlarged and improved. The attempt to murder Ex- President Roosevelt in Milwau kee Monday evening was a most dastardly effort on the part o f the assassin, John Schrank, and would have proven fatal had not the force o f the bullet been checked by going through a bun dle of paper and a leather spec tacle case. Like a snake in the grass the w ild-eyed crank sneaked through the crowd, and would have taken the life o f a very pop ular presidential candidate with out a moment’s warning. It proves that assassins like those who murdered Lincoln, Garfield, and McKinley still mingle with the American people and are lia ble to commit murderous assault on public men at any moment, unless a strong body-guard is maintained. The whole nation sympathizes with Mr. Roosevelt
