A young man named H. R
Leise, a son of a minister, who is
endeavoring to make his w ay
through college, is in Newberg,
taking subscriptions for a book.
The young man comes with the
best of recommendations, he has
a w orthy ambitipn and the
Graphic gladly speaks a word in
his behalf.
His book bears the stamp of
the Success Magazine and is
entitled “ Household Discoveries
and Mrs. Curtis’s Cook Book.”
We have taken pains to examine
the book and say without hesita
tion that we believe it is a work
that will be appreciated in any
home of culture and average
intelligence in the community,
and we hope Mr. Leise will meet
with success in taking subscrip
tions here.
When he calls at your door,
give him a chance to show you
the book and we believe you will
not consider the time wasted.
The vote in Maine on the ques
tion of the repeal o f the prohibi
tion law was so close and the
news regarding the outcome of
the election has been so conflict
ing that it has been difficult to
reach an intelligent conclusion
in the matter. On Tuesday Mrs.
Helen D. Harford received a dis
patch from the headquarters ot
the National W. C. T. U., giving
the vote on the authority ot Mrs.
Stevens as being a majority o f
295 in favor o f the la w as it now
stands. This will be the an
nouncement made In the Union
Signal this week.
