to the new system of evapora
tion. Prof. Swett who is an in

that there is a difference in the
quality o f heat rays, and he has
perfected apparatus for the per
fect preservation o f all kinds ol
fruit, vegetables, fish and meat,
so that they will keep indefinate-

duced to the practical farmers and
business men of the Willamette

Think what it will mean to the
residents of Newberg and vicini
ty, to have an evaporator where
they may take all of their sur
plus fruits and vegetables and
have them evaporated in a few
hours. Then we may eat fresh
sweet corn on the cob at Christ
mas and all through winter.
Fresh pea« and string beans we

Mr. J. Ira Hawley, o f Portland,
has been in Newberg the past
week, representing the Likefresh

interview, he said, “ We are mak

PLEA FOR DEPENDENT
CHILDREN
Perhaps it is unknown to many
o f our citizens that the increase
o f population in the state o f Ore
gon has also brought an increase
in the number o f dependents.
This may seem strange to those
who are not actually in the
work but it is, nevertheless, true.
While it is true the increase in
population has also increased
prosperity, yet, there is always
a following o f dependent classes
and, institutions who care for
this class, are bound to feel this
increase and the Boys’ and Girls’
Aid Society o f Oregon in making
its annual plea for Thanksgiving
donations wishes to bring this
fact before its many friends.
Yamhill county has always
been one o f the society’s best
friends and the management de
pends on the generosity o f the
citizens at this time o f the year.
The County Court has furnished
a dormitory in the new wing at
the cost o f $175 during the past
year and subscribes the sum of
$10 per month for its mainten
ance.
The public schools, however,
are quite a factor toward the
maintenance of this institution
and at this time o f the year the
charitably disposed public, as
well as the public schools, are
called upon to subscribe all they
can afford for this cause.
