The Imperial Hotel came near losing its star cook Monday evening. In connection there with there’s a story too good to keep and at the same time too nearly tragic for jest. Suffice it to say that the distress signal was rung ip from the kitchen, and with all hands to the rescue, with much vigoi ous pushee and pullee the coffee barrel was made to give up its own. He had been set by his mother at weeding onions but despite that fact the scent could not be picked up by the would-be trailers. Night came on and Roy was not. He was located next morning up toward Dundee, he having bivouacked in the Ramsey cemetery. Evi dently he rested better in the lat ter than in the onion bed, for he was still unregenerate in heart, expressing a determination to return to the companionship of the whited sepulchres. The proposi tion is that the Independent Co. shall buy out the Bell Co. as far as its local business here is con cerned taking over its poles, wires etc but substituting its own phones for those now used by Bell subscribers. The home company will thus have entire control of the telephone business in Newberg. There will be one office, one line and patrons will not have to bother with a double service. In return, all long dis tance business from Newberg is to be turned to the Bell lines.
