Oregon Wheat Farms 'There is a kind o f domestic affection which is like a moun tain stream—full to overflowing in the spring and dry as dust in the summer. It is in contrast with the steady current o f the river, fed from - deep-hidden sources and good for all seasons o f the year. there something to be said in faVor o f each kind o f devotion. “ You shall tell me just what you prefer,” said a young husband to his wife. “ Shall I bring you a rose every day, or tw o dozen roses once a month?” The little wife was actually puzzled by the question, and begged for time to consider it. Whatever decision the girl o f twenty arrived at, one may guess that a woman o f mature age who had experienced the ups and downs o f life would have chosen the priceless every-day-in- the-week flower. The steady temper1 o f mind which remembers little services and regards the small requests and minor tastes o f members o f the family makes for jo y in the household. By the same token, the generous, heedless man or woman makes large demands on tience and loyalty. “John is the best ofhusbands,” said his wife, '“ though it took me five years to get used to his virtues coming always likeliquid from a narrow-necked bottle— steady by jerks. But it is a com fort to be sure that his nature is a large bottle, and full to the top.” A little company o f women ere sounding the praises, o f their forebears. The grand father o f one o f them had fought bravely in tw o wars. The great- uncle o f another had taken tw o- hundred passengers safely from a sinking vessel. One old lady was proud o f her father’s victori- conflict with a pack o f wolves on Russian steppe. But a climax yvas reached when one young girl said: “ M y grandmother told me that she lived with my grand father almost fifty years, and never had to lemind him once that her kindling w ood basket was empty.’’Youth’s Companion FO R S A L E $ ' " Now is the time to buy a wheat farm, wheat $1.00 per bushel and the best prospect for a big crop for years. A W ord of Admonition. j j We are pleased with the advancement made in keeping the streets, but we are sure all will admit there is still room for improvement. Even- one, even the children should be interested in the beauty and neat appear ance of our little city. Much can be done to this end bv not throwing waste paper or refuse o f any kind upon the streets or in the curbs. We have l>een told by a busi ness man, who heard some of the business men, o f Portland, who visited our city recently, remark about the scraps o f paper on ottr streets, and piles o f old lioards lying alwnit. We ought to avoid all such, as it looks very disorderly to persons coming from places where such is not allowed. We wish to commend some o f our "business men who use the broom freely ip the morn ing, not only on the side walk but in cleaning out curbs. This adds much to the good appear-- ance o f our streets and we should all aid them all we can. Don’t throw anything on the streets. - Committee.
