March 22. — Forty-flvq persons were killed and 35 were injured, many o f them fatal ly, in a wreck of a Chicago, Rock Island A Pacific train four and a half miles north of Green Mountain, Is., at 8:1« a. m. Monday. A coach, a smoker and a Pullman car were smashed to splinters, almost all the occnpants being killed or in jured. The superstructure of the Pullman was literally shaved off and was jammed like a ramrod through the smoker and day coach. Many passengers were killed out right.
