that «u n e know hat never paid otit a cent to improve the tow n pr to rapport the paper, and the copy he reads w ith marked regu larity is either borrowed from a neighbor or taken o ff the counter in a store where be loafs around. A tow n is unfortunate in having such residents, but all communi ties are afflicted w ith them.— Junction C ity Times. Steps are being taken to raise money fo r the erection o f a monument in the city o f Salon in memory o f Sam. L. Simpson, the Oregon poet who wrote “ Beautiful W illamette” and other verses. It is a move in the right direction and the money ought to be easily raised. Oregon Republicans are try ing to harmonise their methods o f management, but when they gase on the Democratic senator they elected, and who w ill an tagonise the policies ofT att, they feel that somehow their scientific improvements in government have been cultivated at the ex pense o f common sense.—Globe Democrat. N ot a bad diagnosis o f the Before quitting office Governor Chamberlain made use o f his pardoning power in a manner th at is not subject to popular approval in this section o f the state. The pardoning o f J. C. W ilcox, whom the courts declar ed entitled to a year in the county jail and that o f Earl Steele who was declared entitled to a life sentence but who had served b a t three or four years, are the cases referred to. The former w as convicted o f selling liquor to minors, and the latter o f murdering his i «riant child.— M yrtle Point Enterprise. The Graphic has a new fore man in the office in the person o f W . B. Brooks, form erly from Ashland, Nebraska where he spent seven years in the employ -of the Ashland Gazette. Since coining to Oregon a year ago he has been employed as foreman on the Heppner Times, .a position he resigned to accept a like position with the Graphic. He is an all round job printer, and i s ' competent to handle any job that may be offer ed. We are now prepared to offer to those wanting first class job printing done, the services o f a first class mechanic, with a well equipped office. The discussion being carried on in the columns o f the Graphic on “ Wireless” has no doubt been interesting to a large number o f our readers, since this is a live subject in Newberg, but we hope the end o f it is at hand. With- out reading or having^ny^knowl- edge o f the argument produced in this week’s article by Mr. Woodrnnlh, “ Subscriber” has consented to let the matter drop and it is now up to the people to decide fo r themselves on “ W ire less” stock as an investment- W ireless telegraphy has come to stay. There is no doubt about it, and somebody is going to make a 1st o f money out o f it,' but where the little fellow s w ill get o ff’ re mains to be seen. This much we w ill say, that in our acquaintance with affairs in Newberg we have known o f numberless schemes being worked by agents fo r taking money from the pockets o f our people, fo r in vestment away from home, and we are unable to reeall a single instance where anything has come back in the way o f satis factory dividends. DOES T H E W O R LD M O VE. The follow ing clipping, which was left a t the Graphic office by a member o f the M.
