N EW BERO QRAPHIC. T HUKSDAY, JULY 2, IMS. ROLL O F H ONOR. spring a public Newberg in interests o f Yamhill County Development League work. At that time the purposes and plans o f the League lor work were rather fully outlined and ex plained. They need not be dis cussed in detail here. At that meeting subscriptions were tak en at so much per month tor tbe year, for the double purpose of aiding the County organization in advertising Yamhill County in general, and furnishing means of exploiting the resources o f our tow n and Chehalem Valley. At the same time a committee was appointed to solicit for further subscriptions among our busi ness men and citizens generally. But tbe matter was allowed to rest after that meeting, the subscriptions which were already made not even being collected, for the reason principally that there seemed to be no one who could spare the time to shoulder the responsibility o f pushing and directing the work in this vicin ity. People have naturally been wondering whether anything was being done or whether the whole thing had died a born in’ Bnt there is sufficient evidence given in another column o f this jsfu e that tfee eeppty jro r\ t ba? osition with some w ho are ready for the willing horse to do all the palling. All will profit from the results o f the advertising and development work and all should be willing to share in the expense. Yes, it takes a public spirited man, and also a mighty good business man, to sow a few dol lars when the returns are to be reaped some time in the future. But let’s prove that this is just the kind o f men we have here— the kind which insures a rosy fu ture to a town or community. When the secretary or the com mittee approaches you on tbe proposition, meet them with a smile—and a subscription. Or better still, show yonr interest by doing tbe approaching your self with a voluntary offering. By all means get on our roll of honor. ECHO AN SW ERS, “W H Y ?” Why is it that every republican in the land has been shouting him self hoarse for Roosevelt, and affirming that if he was nominat ed that they would vote tor him and that no man in the nation on an opposing ticket cOuld-beat him, and at the same time feel down in the mouth because Taft was nominated? Why is it that the supporters o f Roosevelt do not to the support o f T Roosevelt’s choice; and in Roose velt’s support oi him for the nomination, has practically de clared to tbe nation that he* will continue to carry out his policies and abide by .his principles and make good? , President Roosevelt k n o w s Taft infinitely better than any one else; and that tbeV have met in private council chambers many times to g o over the ground of the future policy o f the party, goes without saying. I have known her tor a great many years and she is held in the highest esteem by all who personally know her and it was only after having suffered from abuse from a brutal husband that she called on the law for protection and assistance. She is in poor health, being almost a nervous wreck and not able to defend herself or do any hard work, and is still suffering from injuries inflicted by Baker. If Baker will bring a legal marriage certificate showing that he was married to the mother o f his child he will get great credit for it.
